April 12, 2008.

The Institute of Science & Management, Pundag, Ranchi had the good fortune of receiving Mr. Nitish Sengupta, IAS, Chairman, Board of Public Rehabilitation Committee, formerly a member of the Planning Commission, Govt. of India and Director General, IMI, Delhi, etc. on April 12, 2008. He was welcomed by the Director, Prof. R.N. Singh, who reflected upon his colourful career all through his life. Addressing the faculty members and students of the Business Management Department he dwelt upon the application of mind in problem solving and accepting change in the global scenario in the social, political, economic and other fields of life. A vote of thanks was also proposed by Prof. R.N. Singh, the Director.

Farewell 2nd April, 2008

Appointment Letter Distribution Ceremony was organized in the Auditorium of the Institute of Science & Management on 2nd April, 2008. The function started with the Welcome Song by the students of the Business Management Dept. for the Distinguished Guests, Sri Inder Singh Namdhari, Honourabe MLA and former Speaker, Jharkhand Assembly; Sri Harivansh Ji, Chief Editor, Prabhat Khabar and other dignitaries present on this occasion. In the welcome address Prof. R.N. Singh, Director of the Institute, presented a report for the Year 2007-08.  He dwelt upon the fact that over the last three years, there has been a remarkable improvement in the academic status of the students in that almost 100% of the final year PGDBM students have been getting lucrative payments from a number of reputed corporates like Voltas, AXIS Bank, IDBI Bank, India Bulls, etc. This achievement of the students can be compared with the placement standards and records of the management institutes of repute in Jharkhand barring, of course, the XLRI. Sri Inder Singh Namdhari reiterated that every time he has visited this institute, he has found highly commendable improvements in all round keep-up of the institute. In the same tone and temper Sri Harivanshji, Chief Editor, Prabhat Khabar, appreciated the remarkable achievements of the Institute and wished it all success under the guidance of Prof. R.N. Singh, even in future. Both of them together expressed their happiness on handing over the Offer Letters to the final year students of PGDBM with the package of as high as Rs.5.6 lakhs per annum. Both Sri Namdhariji and Sri Harbanshji emphasized the importance of moral values even in the lives of Corporate personalities. They dwelt emphatically on the pursuit of Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha as they had been followed in our country since the time immemorial.  The programme ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. M.L. Singh, the Head of the Department.

Group Discussion and Personal Interview for selection of candidates for 2-Year Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (Equivalent to MBA) Course was conducted at Institute of Science & Management, Pundag, Ranchi on 15th March, 2008.  The same was  continued on 18.03.2008 also.

Late Viswanath Singh memorial lecture on “Image Enhancement Imperative for Business Expansion” at ISM, Ranchi on 10th March, 2008 was held on 10th March 2008. Mr. M. K. Deshmukh, Director engineering (MECON LIMITED) was the Chief Guest and Mr. P. N. Singh, Chairman, Grid consultant was the Guest of Honour. Sri M.K. Deshmukh, emphasized the need for enhancing image of the organization for expanding the business. In this context he highlighted the importance of public relation, development of product, strategy and Brand for acceptance of the product and services globally. In this connection he cited the example of Hundai, Hitachi, Tata, Kingfisher and others. He dealt with the challenges faced by globalization.

National seminar on strategic management for corporate excellence

A National Seminar on “Strategic Management: An Effective Tool for Business Excellence” under the auspices of Institute of Science & Management, Pundag, Ranchi was held on , 8th February, 2008 at 10.00 AM in the Institute premises. Honourable Sri G.S. Sethi, Vice Chairman, 15-Point Programme, Government of India,. was present  as the Chief Guest and Sri Kuldeep Singh, President, Gurunanak Hospital, Ranchi was the Guest of Honour. Sri C.S.Jha, Ex-CMD, BCCL,  Prof. R.A.K.Verma, Chairman, ISM,  & Prof. R.N. Singh, Director, ISM were also present among the dignitaries, who expressed their views  on this occasion. Delegates from Voltas Ltd., Usha Martin Ltd., Hindalco Industries Ltd., BSL, Bokaro, Coal India Ltd. and others were also present on the occasion.      

30th January, 2008.

A seminar on “Health Issues of Women & Children” of Jharkhand was organized by SERCH – Society for Education, Research & Community Health, Dibadih, Ranchi in collaboration with C-DAC – Centre for Development & Advanced Computing ( A Scientific Society of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Govt. of India), Hyderabad on ISM campus, Pundag, Ranchi on 30th January, 2008. Dr. R.R. Sinha, Director, SERCH, welcomed the Chief Guest, participants and presented the present health status of children and women of India / world in general and of Jharkhand in particular and drew attention of all concerned towards the present state of and necessity to develop strategy to combat the problem of Malnutrition, Morbidity and ill health of women and children. Prof. R.A.K. Verma, Chairman, ISM, Pundag, Ranchi inaugurated the Seminar and gave a brief information about the status of women and children of Jharkhand. Ms. B. Vijayalaxmi, Member Technical Staff, India Development Gateway and Sri Jitendra Prasad of CDAC and Dr. Girija from CDAC, Hyderabad, presented a brief proposal of their organization, their activities in the field of Health Sector and the objectives of the seminar along with future plan of action  with partner NGOs of Jharkhand. Representative from ILFS - Mr. Rajesh Prasad, Common Service Centre, Pragya Kendra, in collaboration with Govt. of India gave brief introduction about the Common Service Centre. Representative (Mr. Ajay) from CINI (Child in Need Institute), Ranchi presented a paper on “Health and Nutritional Issues of Women in India in general & Jharkhand in particular” which was followed by a discussion. The participants numbering about 70 representing Government, NGOs, split into two groups – one for the Health issue of women and the other for Health issue of children to discuss the problem and develop a strategy to mitigate the problem. The group report was presented by the group leaders. In the end Ms. B. Vijayalaxmi, CDAC proposed Vote of Thanks to all.   

AIMA-VESTAS RRB NATIONAL STUDENT MANAGEMENT QUIZ-2008 was organized by All India Management Association at Ranchi on 28.01.2008. Altogether 17 teams participated in this event. 6 teams competed in the written test out of which 3 (three) teams were from Institute of Science & Management Ranchi. Toppers of written test were Ms. Dolly Singh & Ms. Priyanka Pallavi. After Audio Visual Round, two teams were selected for Grand Finale at Delhi. One team is from Institute of Science & Management, Ranchi comprising Ms. Dolly Singh & Ms. Priyanka Pallavi. Another team of ISM, Ranchi comprising Ms. Ritima Ranjan & Ms. Sovna Chowdhary secured 2nd runner up position. We wish them all the best for the Grand Finale

Mr.Surendra Nath, Prof. of Amity Business School, NOIDA, visited ISM and focused on management issues. Mr. Nath worked as former IAS in M.P. cadre and retired as Chief Secretary from M.P. He mainly dealt with students’ basic query regarding “How to face interviews”.

Mr. R.K.Singh from Patna had an interactive session with 3rd semester of BM Department. He discussed “How to develop Personality” he said that it’s the combination of outlook and in look of an individual that adds to his personality. He further stressed on how communication can be made effective. 

5th Nov.2007

Mr. Shailendra Kumar, CEO, Narnolia Securities visited the Institute and interacted with the 3rd Semester students (2006-08) of BM Department. He said Stock prices and indices levels depend on three factors: Valuation, Liquidity and Sentiment. He further addressed Stock market movement as slave of earning of the corporate. The interaction section included discussion like various parameters affecting the Market, Market themes, and Liquidity issues.   

Institute industry in interaction: an institute industry interaction was organized on 13th and 14th October, 2007  at ISM, Rnnchi. Anil J. Gole, Vice president,  Voltas limited interacted with the students and delivered a talk on “ Expectation of Industries from freshers, organizational transformation and HR functions”. A number of students were also facilitated and awarded prizes on the occasion in acknowledgement of their talent. The meetoing was presided over by sri CS Jha, ex- CMD, BCCL, prof. RAK Verma, Chairmann ISM, and prof. R. N. Singh, Director, ISM, werte also present on the occasion.   

A Prize Distribution Ceremony was also organized on this occasion for the students of Business Management & Hotel Management Students. 

The following students of the HMCT Department received the V. Jha Trust Gold Medal and cash prizes from the Institute:

Besides, Ms. Dolly Singh of Business Management Dept. also received Cash Prize of Rs.5000/-

A Cultural Programme was also organized by the students of the Institute.   The Programme ended with a Vote of Thanks by Prof. (Dr.) V.K. Dass, Registrar, ISM.

Veena memorial lecture on 7th September 2007:

Orrissa state productivity council president and CMD of the Kalinga group of companies, Mr. Ajit Mahapatra delivered Beena Memorial lecture on “Management and Innovation”.  He said that the highest degree of creativity comes from challenges and threat elements. Mr. Mahapatra whose name figured in the list of successful industrialists in the former Pressisent APJ Abdul Kalam Vision 2020, said innovation does not mean invention but creativity and enterprises. Chairman of ISM Advisory Council, Mr. C. S. Jha, who too addressed the gathering,   said innovation was a key word for meant of success in this present era of globalization.  Jharknad and Orisa despite of possessing immense natural wealth have been unable to march ahead because of the absence of quality human resources that is needed to harness the immense resources here. Jasvinder Singh of ISM 2005-07 batch was awarded Veena Memorial Gold medal on this occasion.  A cash award of Rs. 5000 went to Gurmeet Kaur of the institute.  

16th September 2007:

A seminar on Environmental Education was organized at ISM. Dr. S. P. Singh, Ex vice-chancellor stressed the importance of natural resources and its protection.

Teacher’s day on 5th September.

This day was celebrated with great enthusiasm to payn respect and salute to teachers for their devotion and selfless service, all the students of ISM organized a cultural programme.
